Description

UTTHITA BADDHA PARSVAKONASANA Asana group: standing poses (extended side angle) Translation of the name from Sanskrit: • utthita — extended; baddha — bound; parshva — side; kona — angle; asana — pose. 1. Setup Starting position: wide stance. Turn the front foot outward. Bend the front knee to roughly 90 degrees. Fold to the side of the front leg, resting the elbow (or the palm) on the knee or on a block next to the foot. Reach the upper arm over the head, lengthening the whole side. 2. Simplified and advanced variations Simplified variations: • rest the elbow on the knee; • support the palm on a block. Advanced variations: • press the palm to the floor outside the foot; • flow: straighten both legs and return. 3. Injury prevention Keep the front knee over the foot.
