Sitting & Lying Asanas

Description

EKA PADA SHIRSHASANA — VARIATION Asana group: complex poses Translation of the name from Sanskrit: • eka — one; • pada — foot; • shirsha — head. 1. Setup Starting position: sit in Dandasana. Place one foot behind the head as in Eka Pada Shirshasana. Instead of balancing on the hands, keep the pelvis on the mat and fold forward over the extended leg, taking it with both hands. Keep the back long and breathe evenly. Then change the side. 2. Simplified and advanced variations Simplified variations: • hold the extended leg with a strap; • keep the bent leg beside the head without placing the foot behind the neck. Advanced variations: • fold deeper over the straight leg. 3. Injury prevention Master the basic hip and shoulder mobility first. Do not force the foot behind the neck. Keep the extended leg active and the back long.
