PRASARITA VIRABHADRASANA Asana group: standing poses (wide warrior) Translation of the name from Sanskrit: • prasarita — spread, extended; virabhadra — the warrior Virabhadra. 1. Setup Starting position: wide stance with the feet about a meter apart. Turn the feet slightly inward. On an inhale extend the arms to the sides, on an exhale bend the knees, lowering the pelvis. Keep the torso vertical and the knees tracking over the toes. 2. Simplified and advanced variations Simplified variations: • narrow the stance; • keep the hands on the hips. Advanced variations: • deep squat with the thighs parallel to the floor; • rise onto the balls of the feet. 3. Injury prevention Do not let the knees cave inward. Reduce the depth if the legs tire.
