PARIVRITTA TRIKONASANA

Standing Asanas

Difficulty:

Description

PARIVRITTA TRIKONASANA Asana group: standing poses, twists Translation of the name from Sanskrit: • parivritta — turned, revolved; • tri — three; • kona — angle. 1. Setup Starting position: a wide step with the right foot forward. Turn the right foot out and the left foot in slightly. Keep both legs straight. With an exhale turn the torso to the right and bring the left hand to the mat on the outside of the right foot (or on a block). Extend the right arm up, opening the chest. Keep the hips level and the twist in the spine. The gaze is up. Breathe evenly. Then change the side. 2. Simplified and advanced variations Simplified variations: • keep the lower hand on a block; • turn the head down instead of up. Advanced variations: • bind the hands behind the back; • deepen the twist, keeping the legs straight. 3. Injury prevention Turn from the whole spine, not the lower back. Keep the legs straight but the knees not locked. Use a block so the hand reaches the mat comfortably.
