Description

PARIVRITTA KRAUNCHASANA Asana group: sitting poses, twists Translation of the name from Sanskrit: • parivritta — turned, revolved; • krauncha — heron. 1. Setup Starting position: sit with the legs wide apart. Bend the left leg and place the left foot toward the right thigh. With an inhale lengthen the spine, with an exhale turn the body to the right and fold over the right leg, taking the right foot with both hands. Keep the twist in the chest and the back long. Hold, then change the side. 2. Simplified and advanced variations Simplified variations: • use a strap around the foot; • keep the lifted leg bent. Advanced variations: • bind the hands around the extended foot and deepen the twist. 3. Injury prevention Turn from the chest, not the lower back. Do not round the spine to reach the foot.
