Standing Asanas
Description
PARIVRITTA ARDHA CHANDRASANA Asana group: standing poses, balances, twists Translation of the name from Sanskrit: • parivritta — turned, revolved; • ardha — half; • chandra — moon. 1. Setup Starting position: from the right side of Utthita Trikonasana. Bend the right knee and bring the left hand to the mat in front of the right foot (or on a block). Turn the chest to the right and lift the left leg up parallel to the mat. Extend the right arm up. Keep the hips and shoulders in one plane, the standing leg strong. The gaze is up. Breathe evenly. Then change the side. 2. Simplified and advanced variations Simplified variations: • keep the lower hand on a block; • keep the back against a wall. Advanced variations: • lift the top leg higher and deepen the twist; • take the top foot with the top hand. 3. Injury prevention Turn from the chest, not the lower back. Keep the standing knee soft. Use a block so as not to strain the lower back.
