Description
PARIVRTTA EKAPADA SIRSA KAUNDINYASANA Asana group: complex poses Translation of the name from Sanskrit: • eka — one; • pada — foot; • sirsha — head; • Koundinya — the name of a sage. 1. Setup Starting position: Dandasana. Take the right shin and foot with both hands and bring the leg behind the head. Press the right elbow into the left thigh (at a point just above the knee) and, smoothly shifting the weight onto the arms, rise up, pressing the left thigh into the right elbow. The left leg straightens. The arms are slightly bent. Advanced variations: • legs in the lotus. 3. Safety • The neck and back may round too much, which can cause protrusions and hernias — perform the simplified version. • Knee of the top leg: with insufficient rotation in the hip joints, the twisting happens in the knee joint. If discomfort appears, use the simplified variations. • Compensate the wrists after coming out of the pose. • When performing the pose with straight arms, the angle in the wrists becomes acute, which is traumatic.
