BHUJAPIDASANA

Arm Balances

Difficulty:

Description

BHUJAPIDASANA Asana group: arm balances, hip opening Translation of the name from Sanskrit: • bhuja — arm, shoulder; • pida — pressure. 1. Setup Starting position: Tadasana. Spread the feet to shoulder width, on an exhale bend the knees and slide the arms under the thighs as deep as possible. Fingers point forward, elbows bent and directed back. Lower the palms to the floor, lift the feet off the floor and cross the ankles. Elongate the belly, straighten the back, face looking forward. 2. Simplified and advanced variations Simplified variations: • the feet are not crossed; • Ardha Bhujapidasana; • the feet stay on the floor, try lifting one leg at a time; • stand on the feet, slide the shoulders under the thighs, legs bent. Advanced variations: • lower the torso down, reaching the floor with the head; • shift the weight from one arm to the other; • Titibhasana. 3. Safety • The wrists can become overloaded — perform the simplified variations. • Compensate the wrists after coming out of the pose.
